About us
SHIB helps needy orphans and widows in South-Africa.
SHIB is a Dutch christian organisation that aims to help people in the township Reagile in South-Africa.

The organisation came in 2003 in contact with rev. Abraham Khunou in Reagile. In 1985 he started a project in his township to feed the poor people. In this way he wanted to show that faith not only exists in words, but also in doing. He discovered that people also needed counselling.

We offered him to help. Together we made our plans. The situation among the black population in South-Africa is that 6.000 people die from aids every day. Almost a million children are orphaned. People are sick, hungry, have no work, no money, no hope!
In 2004 we started our project in building a Life Care Centre for them. Volunteers in Holland earned money in their free time by doing all kind of jobs: cleaning up buildings, painting, gardening, and so on. The money they earned was used to pay for the trip and for building the centre. During the two-week project they dug and laid the foundation and build the walls up to the roof level. A company in Africa finished the roof in February 2005. Now they use the building as Reagile Life Care Centre!

For black people in South-Africa it was a miracle that white people were working for them.
For us it was a way to show that the Lord knows of their existence and their needs. In this way we showed His love for them.
During the project we started up bible classes with little children. Our goal: when people know Jesus it will change their lives: The sick people get hope for the future. Living in the way Jesus wants, will stop HIV.
The people in Reagile discovered the importance of the bible class. When we left they continued!
In 2006 we made them a garden for a organic gardening project. We also build a Multi-functional building, a room to teach the children. The building can also be used for people to sew and to hammer. All to earn their money. SOme 350 – 400 meals are distributed every day from the centre.

In 2007 we made a playground for the children and helped them in the organisation of the Care Centre.
Recently people from another township (30 miles away) asked SHIB to help them building a centre in their area. We would like to start that project in February 2008.

One of our drives can be found in James 1: 27:
“Religion that pleases God the Father must be pure and spotless. You must help needy orphans and widows and not let this world make you evil.”
